I have an old wooden recipe box. The box belonged to my grandmother. She died long before I was ever born and I unfortunately never knew her. However my father spoke of his mother often and I can say I know a few of her recipes fairly well at this point having made them many times myself. Some of the recipes in her recipe box are simply ingredients listed, no amounts or instructions which can make following them somewhat of a challenge. And some of the ingredients well, just aren’t as common today. But back in her day if you wanted something you typically made it from scratch at home. These sugar cookies are one of her recipes and they are in a word – amazing!
Grab a couple of these babies with a cup of coffee – perfection……
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups flour
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream together butter, sugar, milk and vanilla. Add egg and mix till blended. Add baking powder, salt and flour. Mix.
Scoop by rounded teaspoonful. Place about a half-inch apart on cookie sheet.
Bake 8 – 10 minutes. Do not over bake.
I took each teaspoonful and rolled in sugar before baking. This is an optional step.
